Camping
Gear
The equipment I rely on for trail days and nights at camp — tested in the Texas heat.
Footwear
Bates Men's Shock 8
These tactical boots give me solid ankle support on rocky Texas terrain, and the tall shaft helps keep brush and critters away from my lower legs.
Insect Shield Lightweight Hiking Socks with Permethrin
The built-in permethrin treatment gives me an extra line of defense against ticks, which are relentless on Texas trails from spring through fall.
Clothing
Eddie Bauer Men's Guide Pro Pants
Lightweight and breathable enough for Texas heat, but tough enough to push through cedar and mesquite brush without getting torn up.
Eddie Bauer Mountain Trek Short Sleeve Shirt
Moisture-wicking and quick-drying, this shirt keeps me comfortable when the Texas sun is beating down on long day hikes.
Knives & Tools
OFFGrid Knife Tracker XXL
A big fixed blade I carry for clearing brush on overgrown trail sections and handling any camp tasks that come up on longer trips.
Small Folder
A compact folding knife that lives in my pocket for quick tasks — cutting cordage, opening packages, or preparing trail snacks.

Essentials
Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L
Carries my camera gear and hiking essentials in one organized pack with the large camera cube, so I can shoot wildlife and landscapes without lugging a separate camera bag.
Bug Collection Kit
A small field kit for collecting and preserving interesting arthropods I encounter on the trail — vials, forceps, and a magnifier for up-close inspection.
