Why It Makes The Cut

The Peak Design Travel Backpack 45L with the large camera cube is my dual-purpose solution for hikes where I need both photography gear and trail essentials in a single pack. I chose it because I was tired of either cramming camera equipment into a hiking pack with no real protection or hauling a dedicated camera bag that left no room for water, food, and layers. The large camera cube fits snugly in the bottom compartment and holds my Sony body, two to three lenses, and accessories in padded, customizable dividers — while the top compartment swallows a hydration bladder, rain shell, snacks, bug collection kit, and whatever else the day demands. The rear-panel access lets me pull a lens without setting the bag on the ground in mud or fire ants, and the side pocket fits a travel tripod. It is a heavy carry when fully loaded, but the hip belt and sternum strap distribute weight well enough that long days on the trail stay comfortable.
